A curious little girl sat by the fireplace while pondering out loud: “Today I visited the circus, and saw the most beautiful and strong elephants tied to poles. Why did they just stand there? Why don’t they all just break free?”
Her grandfather grins as his face lights up. “My little rebel, I am afraid that’s the harvest of history. The elephant’s owner introduced the rope from a very young age, he doesn’t know any better than being tied to the pole.
Of course, he tried to escape when he was a baby. But as far as the elephant’s concerned, there is no escaping the pole regardless of his size and strength. The pole is there to remind him he should stand still and not go anywhere…”
